Information regarding EYPS is subject to change due to a review of Government legislation and policy. Information published on these pages continues to reflect the current position for active EYPS candidates. It is likely that the next intake for EYPS will be under the new contractual arrangements and will be in January 2012

Important information for current EYPS candidates has been published, to view this information, please click here.

South West Initiative for Training (SWIfT) are currently contracted to offer new EYPS places until 31 March 2011.  This means that we are unable to accept candidates onto the EYPS programme after this date under our existing contract.  Although we are awaiting definitive information about the available pathways to EYPS from April 2011, the Government has confirmed a commitment to EYPS in the future and has indicated a re-tendering process will take place during 2011.

Any future SWIfT contract for the EYPS programme will be subject to the re-tender process and we would expect arrangements for future programmes to clearer by September 2011.

If you are considering applying for EYPS at any time from September 2011, we would strongly encourage you to achieve the following:

GCSE English Grade C or above

GCSE Mathematics Grade C or above

We are led to believe that these will become ENTRY requirements.  Please note this is a change of policy from previous cohorts.

Whereas there are alternative qualifications that are acceptable, including GCE English and Mathematics, it is only the full syllabus as in GCSE that is recognised for EYPS and this is expected to continue. The narrower curriculum offered for level 2 literacy and numeracy is NOT accepted for the professional status of the Early Years Professional.

Please click here and provide your contact details if you would like SWIfT to send you information regarding any future EYPS pathways SWIfT are contracted to provide.

We will ensure that our website is kept updated with any information regarding any future contracts, this information can be found on the Somerset Centre for Integrated Learning (SCIL) website SCIL is the lead partner of SWIfT.
